About this prayer
One of the oldest litanies of the Western Church, with roots in the processions of Rome around the sixth and seventh centuries; its names grew over the Middle Ages. It is sung at the Easter Vigil, at ordinations and in times of need, and was long sung on the Rogation Days. This is our shortened selection from the traditional Roman form, for prayer at home.
